all right there we are going to look at a relationship real simple for you real simple we got a lot of your questions is your ability to convert and we talked about how converted was converting mean just make it look different but it's still the same number same value okay so we are going to convert fractions to decimals and decimals back to fractions but our Focus only will rely on 10:00 behind the decimal point as well as the ones in 10 I believe that you guys have a pretty good understanding of under if it says what digit is in the ten thousands place value so what did you do it is but now we are going to dive more into detail about the decimal points and the pie size behind it okay there is just one rule that I have this is my rule for relating decimals and fractions say it write it and then do what you just said and understand what you just like the Nike commercial and I don't know if they still have the same slogan just do it and I saw it took it from them we have the ones place by into the left of the decimal point no point I labeled as a word and I use the decimal point as a word and I use the decimal as the word and then right behind the decimal point we have the place I used the 10th with the th right so anytime you have a t h it means of behind the desk all right man right behind the 10 you have the hundred behind the decimal what's right behind it what's right behind the decimal point look at it the temp man behind the tent is 100 hundreds do you believe the number is Ashley game larger when I move to the right or when I move to the left $2 laugh so as we move to the left I just wanted you and as we move to the right and get smaller before I dive in this component let's just do another review that you should know what is the relationship and I'm just going to start with the ones and 10 if I move to the left how much greater is that so if I go from the tens to the hundred and I move to the left how much greater is that 10 Miss Marjorie by increments of what why is that why do you think that is sure 1010 10 of 100 so what's that remind you of what he was saying that is if you have 10 10 will give you one set of 110 151 set of 1000 and that's absolutely correct it is right why is that happening what you doing tonight it's happening but every time you go on the place value chart with a x e r x e r x increments of okay that's great because our number system is a base 10 system so I want you to take your fingers for me and I have 10 beautiful well manicured fingernails I think alright our number starts at 0 so here is 0 one two 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 what happens after that it goes back to 0 in the ones place value and then the tens place value goes up by one so if you ever watch your parents drive and you see what is called the old odometer miles the car has been driven and there is typically all with your hundred thousand but they have this one column that is the place value that is usually White and has has 0123456789 man is that it goes back to you zero and this one Michael's up by 1 so so they go back to zero are you over to the lab to goes up by 1 and that's what's happening so increments of tens as a base ten ten times how many years do I go into a bank I mean ones am I going to get one $10 bill how many $10 bills for $100 bill I wish I had that type of money but my wife keeps taking the money that's why I'm broke but don't tell my wife that all right all right I'm going to the right it just smaller doesn't it so how much smaller hand or fraction is one text that's all you be 110 110 so if we get larger going to laugh by 10 we're going to get smaller by next place by 8 to the right by 110 110 that's all right so we have here a place I turned I'm going to focus most my efforts today on the right hand side and we are going to use this rule that I use when I want to convert a fraction to a decimal using a place value chart say it I mean you have to say it out loud you know right it what you just said you are going to place it inside the place value chart and so you going to do it right and this is real simple if I gave you this why is it say that in your head without saying out loud right now just a fraction say this number out loud in your head Malaya say that fraction for me 82 + 410 now she said say it again a little slower all right 2 4/10 is what she said what did she say first what did she say first so there's two what was the second thing she said thank you and you are what is it Madison thank you sweetheart and what are we you that did a small and and then you said what in what place did she say and what place value is right behind the decimal 4 and I mean for 2 and or because independent is right behind so therefore now how much is fairly easy but I guess I need to make a little more challenging I'm 7 Mi do not say it out loud I want you to do it why do ride it I'm writing your writing what does Yoda did it alright Nicholas this number out loud slowly for me office so what am I going to write that 7 28 where is the eighth located your last digits last numerator digit must go into the place value chart of the denominator and they only say it's 100 correct and then up here on top so therefore Bridget is the 8th have to go in my I'm dressed so use my eight what's right in front of the eight I'm watching from the decimal 77 answer so I'm going to give you a little more challenging one now what if I gave you this then write it and then do it and place it in did you tell me Madison I'm going to be a pencil okay 14 and she said there's my decimal 9 what and what place value does a lion have to go in so isn't that which location right here or here so are you done this before you guys are all gone you guys all got at now I have to make it tougher because it is too easy so I have a hears this one then I see if it works if you can get this one this one I don't know what we just did ride it that it was already game there I want sweet tables I'm staying with mine then oh my God say that fraction you hear it places to live for free say the process I'll be over here can you hear me say it out loud yeah all right you're ready go ahead say it out loud to me a whole fraction first yes $100 to Yen 2430 again 230 then how many decimal in there does it thank you 200-3400 just my decimal point hundred 12 spots over so what must go in my hundreds look what I said stuff for free yeah last week we said that we can decompose this number can we write number that and the most important part of a fraction from its Terrazzo is always the what doubly decompose this we can say that 100 what is this called Warhol how many holes do I have what do you have left over over so all of this this this this this they're all the same all of them are the same we started with this it can look like this as a decimal they can look like this as a mixed fraction and they can look like this as a decomposing of my improper fraction the job give it to you as a you sure are you positive what what test it out and we'll test it out I'm going to give you I won't say it out loud I was going to do the answer can't do that one I said I David my decimal first what is my fraction for this gems say it write it as a fraction this in for the place value looking for the word what how do you say Madison you think you got it Elijah let's see if you got it right tell me the number correctly slowly 6 + 300 3 what country how do you know it's a hundred oh so you said how's my day look 3 the hundreds Auburn Jersey vent a question so this is correct so this is correct with this is my next question for you what's my improper fraction what are you doing what's my improper fraction my improper fraction would look like what over 100 that is correct that is absolutely correct that is correct all three these alarm equivalent massage on Wednesday but they can keep going back and forth from decimal to fraction to improper fraction questions for me guys it's not in the hundred 0 before it does that does that mean it's a 10 sorry if I gave you I did this so if I gave you miss a 45 about okay so you said it writer for me I'll be in Pensacola spy 5 goes in what place value and it's not my tents right behind it that's how you get that answer is yes such as what this tells me to my place value and I know that my place made this is my son trips the hospital here well that goes right here and there's no other digits so this has to be a hero so if you just trust in this say it write it and do it Millwork as well as say the numerator digit 3 goes into the place I turn of the denominator man against always the last digit though right
