The Special Education Department provides resources to campuses to support meaningful learning opportunities for eligible students with disabilities in accordance with state, federal, and local policies. Special education is an integral part of the total instructional program of the district. Arrow Academy provides a full continuum of services to meet the needs of eligible students that allows access to general instruction with non-disabled peers to the maximum extent appropriate for each student. Parents Evaluation Request

A parent may request an initial evaluation for special education services at any time. TEA’s current guidance states that after receiving a written request for an initial evaluation, a school must respond within 15 school days by either agreeing to evaluate and seeking consent, or providing prior written notice explaining why it refuses. TEA also notes that a request may be made verbally and does not have to be in writing, though written requests are best for documentation.

  • Child Find Contact

We Help Identify Students Who May Need Support

Arrow Academy has a responsibility to identify, locate, and evaluate children who may have a disability and may need special education services. This duty is often called Child Find. TEA guidance explains that schools must provide information to families about students who have learning difficulties or who may need special education services.

    This includes students who are:

    • enrolled at Arrow Academy
    • transferring from another school
    • experiencing significant academic, speech, behavioral, developmental, or functional challenges

If you believe your child may need special education support, please contact us.

  • Compensatory Services

Our Commitment: If it is determined that a student has missed vital instruction or support, our team will work closely with parents and guardians to develop a plan that addresses these gaps and helps the student get back on track with their learning goals.

    Evaluation and Eligibility

    What Happens Next

If an evaluation is appropriate, Arrow Academy will request your consent and begin the evaluation process according to legal timelines. The evaluation helps determine:

    • whether the student has a disability under IDEA
    • whether the student needs special education and related services
    • what supports may be appropriate for the student

If a student is found eligible, an ARD Committee meeting will be held to review the evaluation and develop an individualized education program, if needed. TEA specifically identifies the Parent’s Guide to the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Process as a companion resource to the procedural safeguards notice.

    Services and Supports

Special education services are designed to meet the unique needs of eligible students.  Services are determined by the student’s ARD Committee and provided in the least restrictive environment appropriate for the student.
